Trauma and PTSD Therapy in Leicester

‍ If you are living with the effects of trauma, you may already know that it is not something that simply “passes with time.” Trauma can remain in the body, in the nervous system, and in the way the world is perceived. It can shape how safe you feel, how you relate to others, and how you experience yourself.

I offer trauma-informed hypnotherapy in Leicester, supporting individuals to work gently and safely with the deeper layers of their experience.

Understanding trauma

Trauma is not defined only by what happened, but by how the experience was held within the system. For some, this may include flashbacks, intrusive memories, or heightened anxiety. For others, it may show up as numbness, disconnection, or a sense of being cut off from feeling.

Many people notice patterns such as:

  • Feeling easily overwhelmed or on edge

  • Difficulty relaxing or switching off

  • Emotional reactivity or shutdown

  • A sense of being “stuck” despite insight

As Bessel van der Kolk writes,“The body keeps the score.”Trauma is not simply remembered. It is lived through the body until the system has the opportunity to process and update.

A careful and respectful approach

This work is not about pushing, reliving, or forcing anything to happen. It is about creating the conditions where the nervous system can begin to feel safe enough to shift. My approach integrates hypnotherapy with depth psychology and somatic awareness. We work at the pace your system allows, paying attention to what emerges rather than imposing a direction. There is a strong emphasis on stabilisation, resourcing, and building internal safety before moving towards deeper material. “Trauma is not in the event itself, but in the nervous system.” This understanding allows us to work with trauma without overwhelming the system.

What happens in a session

Sessions are structured to support safety, clarity, and gradual integration. There is space to talk and make sense of your experience, alongside gentle hypnotic work that supports the body and mind to settle and reorganise. Hypnosis is used as a natural state of focused awareness, allowing access to deeper processes without force. You remain in control throughout. Nothing is done to you. The work is collaborative, responsive, and guided by your readiness.

The process of change

Healing from trauma is not about erasing the past. It is about changing your relationship to it. Over time, clients often begin to notice:

  • A greater sense of safety within the body

  • Reduced reactivity and overwhelm

  • Increased emotional range and flexibility

  • The ability to remain present without shutting down

  • A growing sense of self-trust

Carl Jung said “Until you make the unconscious conscious, it will direct your life and you will call it fate.”This work allows what has been held out of awareness to be approached with care, so that it no longer needs to drive from the background.
